2026 will usher in several big changes in retirement planning and build on some big changes that have already occurred:

Retirement savings have been a major concern for millions of Americans for a long time but now more than ever it’s critical to be sure that you have a handle on what’s happening.

Why?  A big part of the reason is the series of new laws and changes enacted by Congress over the last few years. Chiefly among them is the so-called The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement  (SECURE) Acts 1 & 2, and the most recent One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB). These include dramatic and significant changes that can impact every retiree with assets to protect and preserve.

Every type of retirement plan is impacted by these sweeping changes. Americans have trillions of dollars set aside in retirement plans and accounts and for many it’s their biggest asset.  So while most financial advisors are focused on why and how you should save for retirement, we put protecting those savings at the top of the priority list.

Look at it like this: What good is making even a 50% return on an investment if, at the time of the withdrawal, taxes will step in to claim 70%, 80%, or even 90% of your nest egg?

Owing to a complex web of distribution and estate taxes that kick in at retirement or death, millions of you are at risk of losing much- perhaps even most- of your retirement savings. This could put an incredible burden on you, your children, and society as a whole as the number of retirees swell exponentially over time.

None of this takes into account the ever-changing intricacies of the United States tax code, Social Security, and Medicare rules. The failure to understand all of this could put you and your nest egg in jeopardy at precisely the wrong time – when you are no longer working or want to be - i.e. RETIREMENT.
This all can create a tremendous amount of stress.

You may be wondering what the future will bring:

  • New Laws and Rules
  • Higher Taxes
  • Increasing Inflation
  • Political Unrest
  • Rising Interest Rates
  • Wild Stock Market Shake Ups

And more….

It’s no wonder you may be experiencing a little anxiety!

Creating your personal retirement plan make sense if your aim is to:

✓ Avoid running out of money before you run out of life
✓ Optimize your Social Security benefits and understand the myriad of options you have available – and the pros and cons of each
✓ Maximize and comprehend Medicare – the health plan most of the country is required to go on at ae 65
✓ Make the most of your retirement savings
✓ Save a fortune by avoiding excessive and often needless taxation
✓ Pass on more assets to loved ones and other beneficiaries
✓ Expand your knowledge of retirement distribution planning
✓ Tap retirement funds for emergency cash without big penalties
✓ Understand the intricacies of estate planning: Trusts, Wills, Powers of Attorney, Advance Directives - how they work and if you would benefit from them
✓ Discover alternatives to the Stretch IRA (that the Secure Act dismantled)
✓ Create larger inheritances, with more control and less tax
✓ Integrate your retirement plan with your estate plan
✓ Avoid falling into tax traps with the complex new inherited rules
✓ Protect retirement accounts from creditors, divorce, bankruptcy, lawsuits, or other problems that could expose them to confiscation

And best of all... Create YOUR plan and not the government's plan!

While all of this might seem a tad bit daunting...Not to fear!

We look at retirement planning as a baseball diamond with four bases to touch to hit a home run in retirement. Sports analogies? Yes! But retirement planning is a game, a VERY serious game, but it’s one you need to play to win - and there aren’t many better analogies than hitting a home run to win the game!

The Diamond of Retirement Planning

First Base – Health
Second Base - Wealth
Third Base - Preservation
Home Plate - Connection

Health

Health means taking care of your body, mind and spirit so you can be stronger for longer – hopefully adding to not just your life span but your QUALITY of LIFE Span. Which are two completely different things. Staying strong but planning for potential health care and medical costs or long term care issues can be a smart move.

Wealth

Wealth is essentially managing the four cornerstones of retirement planning effectively. This includes goal setting, plans to help parents, kids, and grand kids, continuing to accumulate wealth, managing assets investments, emergency funds for spending shocks, and more.

Preservation

Preservation harkens back to what we listed out in the bullet points above. You have MUCH to lose in retirement, and precious little time to do anything about it if it happens. That’s why being prepared is critically important. The RISKS OF RETIREMENT are significant; the solutions should be too. Taxes are a key area of consideration but so is inflation and market volatility.

Connection

Connection means caring about something that gets your juices flowing, excites you, makes you smile and joyfully work toward achieving is something that successful retirees report being extraordinarily valuable to them as the transition to this phase of life. It can include taking steps to protect your legacy for family and loved ones.  It also refers to daily pursuits and goals that range from contributing to a church, charities, kids and grandkids. For many it means personal achievements like writing a book, perfecting your golf, tennis, or pickleball game, working out, or travel- or even a second career- something you do for the fun of it not the money as an example. It’s up to you - but watching reruns of Seinfeld or cable news all day isn’t something we recommend for a happy retirement.

One of the biggest mistakes people make with their money…is waiting.
  • Waiting to plan for retirement
  • Waiting to reduce taxes
  • Waiting to protect what they’ve worked a lifetime to build

Because here’s the truth: without a clearly defined retirement plan you could outlive your savings, overpay thousands in unnecessary taxes, or leave your family with avoidable stress and confusion.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.
With a properly constructed retirement, tax and estate plan, you can work towards creating predictable lifetime retirement income, keep more of your money, and help make sure that your wishes are honored – no matter what the future brings.
Every day that you delay is a year of lost opportunities and fewer options. Tax laws change. Markets change. And time is the one thing you can’t get back.
Now is the time to take control!

Schedule a confidential, complementary, and no obligation consultation with us today. Learn where you stand, what’s at risk (and how much risk you are ACTUALLY taking now), and best of all what steps you can take right now to help preserve your families future.
Your money should work for you – today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

Take action now.
